In the first centuries of a.c. Termez city was a large center of Buddhism. There are a lot of saved scents of temples and monasteries nowadays. There is a Zurmala tower in 3 km on northwest from Termez city. Red bright Remainders of its stupa are 15.5 meters in diameter. It was built  on the white stoned cover platform 19 centuries ago. In 20th century, monastery of Ayrtam city was destroyed because of bridge building on Amudarya river in 8 kilometers on east from Termez. Stone friso with Baktry writings bass-relief are keeping in museums nowadays. In 8 kilometers on the northwest from Termez there are remainers of Fayaz tepa monastery and temple, which was built in 1st century a.c. On the central part of that square (117*34 meters) building, there was a temple with rooftop  yards and iwan on the columns by its perimeter. In front of the entrance on the western part of temple there is a stupa with 10 meters in its diameter. You will see  the main sanctuary on the western part of temple, wich locates in front of the temple's entrance. Walls of sanctuary and iwan gallery were decorated with colored fresco, and 4 meters sculptures were across the walls. Unique  altro-relievo of Buddha and two monks under the holy tree Bodhee were founded there. On the north of temple was a monastery, on the south was household spaces with kitchen and dinning halls. Another big Buddhist complex is Kara-tepa, which was built on three hills on the northwest of old Termez downtown in the beginning of 4th century. It was consist of group of temples  and monasteries. Part of rooms located in the underground caves, which were dug in sandy ground and other parts on the outer ground. Interior was decorated with  wall frescoes and ductile sculptures. Unfortunately, in th 4th century Fayanz Tepa temple and monastery were raven and stopped their existence. At the same time the most part of Kara tepa complex stopped their functioning. Only some of Buddhist sanctuaries were in action till 4th century.
