No one knows the original place of described land in "1001 nights" fairytale. But prototype of that famous fairytale among the Arabian lands was "1000 legends" issue, translated from Persian language in the 10th century. It was very popular book in Bagdad. When our conteprories see the different sightseeings of Khiva city, they associate it with described fairy land.
Khiva is a very ancient city and consist of 2 cities: Ichan-Kala and Dishan-Kala, inner and outer cities consequently. Ichan-Kala is a very important historical heritage under protection of UNESCO.
There are over 60 historical monuments in Khiva. But it seems, there are much more attractions around. Traditional houses, narrow streets, mosques, medreses and minarets, all together they make you feel yourself in the ancient East.
The oldest part of Ichan-Kala city is surrounded by defending walls which have 4 gates from each side. Inner city is really full of historical monuments. You can meet them everywhere. But Kalta Minar Minaret is the most unusual among the others. There are also a lot of interesting historical objects as Ata Darvoza, Mukhamad Amin Khan medrese, Djum mosque and many others historical masterpieces. You obviously should visit this wonderful city!
