Ustyurt upland locates on the western part of Central Asia in the 3 countries at the same time: Kazakhastan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. 

You probably meet its another name - Ustyurt island. When you see this astonishing panoramic sight you will understand why it called an Island.
Huge stone walls, about 300 meters in height, are rising over the sandy desert. Rocks have solid vertically sights, so it is quite a difficult task to find a place with available access to the top. There are only few places in hundreds kilometers matching this purpose. The view on this rising rock wall arouses feeling of adorable horror. 

Color pallet of rocks is amazing, it has variety of colors, from white to blue and pink colors. Colorful stones make this place fabulous. But being on the top of upland you will realize that this is not a fantasy where unicorns are feeding grass and little fays are flying around, but a real place with a fantastic panoramic view. It mostly reminds scenes of moovies about traveling to far and empty planets as the suffer of land is covered with breaks and cracks. 

It is incredible, but despite great sizes of Ustyurt upland (200 000 square meters), there is no water reservoirs or other water sources. The one way to get water is to take it from the wet with depth not less than 50 meters. But the taste of water is disappointing. It has salt and bitter spicy taste. For this reason world of flora is very poor. Mostly, artemisia and salt grass are appearing there. But it did not reflect on inhabiting this place by people. Deep researching of place showed that there were over 60 ancient men sites. Later upland was inhabited by Scythians. Mongols also left trails of their inhabitance. Caravans came across the Ustyurt upland on their ways to from Asia to Europe. Unfortunately, the time was ruthless to this place. It destroyed almost all proves of past life. There are only a few half destroyed ancient historical objects as ark of Beliuli caravan saray, ruins of almost disapeared old fortress and some other buildings. 

Archeological mining have been started quite recently, in 1983. The delay of researching explains with a difficulty of delivery equipment and people as well as very hard weather conditions. 

The first discovery on Ustyurt upland was Bayte cult complex. It consist of ancient grave hills, tables for religious sacrificing, which surrounded with stone sculptures. There is no other same object in the whole Asia. This kind of memorial complex is not typical for nomads, so it makes this place more unique. Still unknown for what purpose and whom it was built. 

Another words, Ustyurt upland is a mystery of whole planet. When scientists had a round flight on the helicopter in 1986, they found strange drawings on the upland surface. They looked as pikes, so usually scientists call them arrows. Being on the top of upland is impossible to see drawings as they are visible only from the big height. Another similar discovery which is worrying scientists was opened in Naska desert, Peru. Absolutely all pikes are turned to the north and their length is about 1 kilometer. Pikes were built from the stone and had a height 1 meter. Who built these strange stoned objects, for what reason? Ustyurt arrows and the same arrows in Peru are the real mystery of our days. Researchers suggest they were built for cattle storage or land irrigation. Other scientists suggests that arrows appearing is connected with strange cult complexes and it has mystery purposes. Nowadays, no one can answer whether buildings have mysterious roots, but it is fact, that incomprehensible accidents are appearing time to time on Ustyurt upland. Local people saw strange lightening and clear mirages in the sky at daytime and nighttime as well. Even tourists see the same visions sometimes. Some group of tourists come to Ustyurt especially to catch mysterious lights and see mirages by their own eyes. But most of people come to this nature giant to see its greatness and beautiful landscapes.
